ROMEO SANTOS IS THE LATIN MUSIC ARTIST OF THE YEAR (ENGLISH)

Noticia Romeo Santos Is The Latin Music Artist of The Year [ENGLISH]
I have to say choosing the Latin Music artist of 2012 was a difficult decision. Although various stars accomplished significant awards and recognition this year, not a single artist was really able to shine above the rest. That said, I am selecting Romeo Santos as the best Latin music artist of the year because of a very simple fact: His solo debut work Formula Vol. 1 is the number one selling Latin album of 2012.
This achievement is particularly strong if we take into considerationFormula Vol. 1 was released last year. In fact, because of the enormous popularity that songs such as “La Diabla” and “Mi Santa” enjoyed this year, Formula Vol. 1 is the only CD in my list of best Latin music albums of 2012 that made it to the same list last year.
However, this is not the only reason why Romeo Santos deserves this title. The following achievements helped me to chose this popularBachata star as this year’s most influential artist:
  • Formula Vol. 1 was honored with the Top Latin AlbumAward at the 2012 Billboard Music Awards.
  • Best Latino Artist of 2012 at the MTV Video Music Awards.
  • Songwriter of the Year at the 20th annual ASCAP Latin Music Awards.
  • Formula Vol. 1 spent over four months at #1 on Billboard’s Top Latin Albums Chart and has produced four consecutive #1 singles atop the Hot Latin Songs Chart.
  • Although Prince Royce defeated Romeo Santos several times this year at different award ceremonies, I wanted to acknowledge the popular vote Bachata fans expressed on the Latin music site early this year. In the most popular poll of the year, Romeo Santos defeated Prince Royce by a solid margin.
Last year, Shakira was by far the best Latin music artist of 2011. Her music, the awards she received and her personal achievements were just above everyone else’s. This year, Romeo Santos is the winner because of the popularity of his music. Besides this, he has exposed Bachata to a mainstream crowd that did not even care about this genre before. His talent mixing Bachata with things like Pop and R&B is creating new options for rising stars in both the Urban and Tropical field. Whether you like his music or not, Romeo Santos has left an important imprint in the development of Latin music this year.
